eBazm Guidelines

Frequency of mails: Lot of people tend to leave the list when the frequency increases. At present we limit the posts at a max of 7 per day. Feel free to switch to 'digest' mode. This will ensure that, you receive just one mail in a day. All postings for that day are clubbed up in one mail. You can also opt to read postings on the web only and in that case you won't receive any emails. Drop a mail to manjeet@eBazm.com or click here and choose the desired setting. Please note that we send the mails in English only and do not use Urdu script or Hindi script at the moment.

Mail filters: A better option for email management is use of mail filters. You can use filters to place eBazm's mail in a separate folder and read them in your free time. Lots of people prefer this over the digest mode.

Feel free to post: We encourage members to post their own creation of ghazal, nazm, sher, kavita, chand, dohe (urdu and hindi only please) or other forms of urdu poetry & hindi poetry. However, there is no restriction to post urdu or hindi poetry written by some other well known or unknown shayar (poet). In that case we appreciate it if the sender can please specify the name of author. Doesn't matter if you think it is very common and all your friends have heard of it. Maybe it is not that popular in some other part of world.

You can also use eBazm to spread the word and inform Indian community (read urdu & hindi speaking community) of any Mushaira (mushayra) or of any other Indian cultural event happening in your city.

Long signature files: Trust me, no one wants to know your address, phone number, ICQ number and 5 other email ids which you have. The one who is interested will email you and ask for it.

Those 10 lines of your signature just irritate others. If you have to have one, make it short and sweet. Not to forget that bandwidth could be an important issue for some users who have dialup accounts. Also, it is a big inconvenience to the people who receive the 'digest' mails from eBazm.

Subject field : It's a good idea to use the subject field than leaving it blank. It gives an idea to people about the post before they open it. Also if that thread grows large enough then subject field makes it easier to tack the complete thread.

While replying : Quote just the relevant part of related mail and not whole mail. Once again think of members who have dialup accounts. Any irrelevant part when quoted will take a toll on download time & speed and also on money (every minute is paid for in India and some other countries). Most importantly trim the advertisements which are at the end of mails.

Meanings : Not everyone is as proficient as you in Hindi and Urdu. Please try to explain the tough words in your post and if possible a central idea too!! But do not refrain from posting something if you cannot do it. Someone else can do it for you. You can refer to Urdu dictionary compiled by some of our members and include the meanings in your posting. This is Urdu-English dictionary but we plan to include hindi meanings too.

CC'ing other members : Think before you CC your posting to some other list member. This posting will reach him/her anyway because s/he is a member of list. Still, if you must send a CC make sure that the other person if okay with that idea. Please do not, I repeat DO NOT send me a CC as I already receive many copies of each posting. Just send it to eBazm@eBazm.com.

JPGs or use of other scripts : eBazm does not entertain use of JPEG attachments which have Urdu or Hindi script on it. I agree that it can give a better understanding of that particular post but its a trade off between better understanding and file size !

However, should we plan to entertain other scripts then we might limit it to Hindi as number of members who can read hindi is much higher then members who can read Urdu !
